Big Ball is an episode of Chowder that aired July 2, 2009.
Summary[]
Truffles wants someone to win in Big Ball (see Trivia-section for full name), but Mung claims that there's no scoring in it. Fed up with being there for so long, Truffles becomes the new coach for Goulash United. Mung Daal wouldn't allow it so he decides to be team captain for the Marzipan Macadamias. Both fight against each other for the goal.
In the end, Truffles scores a goal for her team and makes a point of rubbing it in her husband's face. But much to the shock of Truffles, it turns out that Mung was actually being literal (not figurative) when he kept telling her and everyone else how scoring isn't the point of the sport and that it will in fact destroy the sport -- this is shown because, shortly after Truffles' team makes the goal, a giant turtle-monster rises up from the ground (as the sports playing grounds were on their shell) and tosses the whole stadium into a massive trash can.
The episode ultimately ends with Chowder saying he wants more beenuts.
Trivia[]
- At the beginning of the episode, the music is similar to NFL's Half-time music.
- The full name of the titular sport is "Field Tournament Style Up and Down on the Ground Manja Flanja Blanja Banja Ishka Bibble Babble Flabble Doma Roma Floma Boma Jingle-Jangle Every-Angle Brickabracka Flacka-stacka Two-ton Rerun Free-for-all Big Ball." Mung's the only one who ever says the sport's full name, as he insists that it's bad luck to not say the full name of the sport out loud.
- In "The Chain Recipe," Mung insists that there's no such thing as luck (good or bad).
- This is one of the few episodes where Chowder isn't the main focus.
- The Marzipan Macadamias's hats are similar to the hat of Mario, the titular protagonist of the Super Mario-series.
- The giant turtle monster that throws the stadium greatly resembles Bowser, the main antagonist of the Super Mario-series.
- The Marzipan Macadamias and Goulash United uniforms are, in fact, different, as the Goulash United's red stripes are thinner in width and vice versa.
- The Marzipan Macadamias are the only characters that don't understand Shnitzel's words.
- In one scene, Mung exclaims, "But how are we gonna win?!" when it was clearly shown that his intent was to keep the game at a tie.
- However, he may have meant successfully defending the current round or he had just been panicking.
- Since Goulash United got a head start during Official Tea-Break Time, the Marzipan Macadamias could have called a foul.
- The referee screams "GOOOOAAAAAAALLLL!!", like in Latino and Brazilian soccer.
- This episode's title card is stylistically different from other, normal title cards. The music that plays during it is also unique.
- In this episode, Chowder danced just like Little Miss Sunshine in the Mr. Men Show
- Parts of the full name, "Manja" and "Blanja", are actual Malaysian words for "Whiny" and "Treat". However, this could simply be a coincidence.
- This is the episode with the most puns.
Errors/Goofs[]
- When Mung holds Chowder before the cutaway scene, his hand disappears.
- During the tea break, there are two identical dogs wearing Marzipan Macadamia uniforms.
Meta-Reference[]
- After Truffles barks out orders to the Goulash United team she says "now, Break!" the team then literally breaks into pieces, to which Truffles says "Yes, very funny, I hate this show."
- in one scene, Mung says to Chowder "Get away from the screen. Your giant head is blocking the view."
- After Mung shouts "Da Fence!" Kiwi appears saying "The jokes, are getting worse."
- While Mung is about to call Chowder into the game, Chowder says the bench is nice and warm and there is a cutaway to the bench being on fire. After the cutaway Chowder appears without a shirt. When Mung asked what happened to it Chowder replies "I got hungry during the Cut-away."
